Growth Hacking
A workshop about improving your products marketing strategy.
Week 1 - Website Analysis
After attending Tim van Leeuwerden's intro to online marketing in week 1, He left us with a simple assignment to get familiar with growth hacking.
The assignment was: choose one of the mentioned websites and analyse them in terms of performance, SEO and UX. I chose to analyse Zalando.nl , as I had used it before.

Week 2 - What is Growth Hacking?
In week 2, we had another lecture from Tim van Leeuwerden about identifying and using Growth Hacking techniques.
I learned about the north star metric and the pirate funnel, and he then left us with another short assignment. The assignment was to find out what can be seen as Growth Hacking, but also what shouldn't be seen as Growth Hacking.
What is Growth Hacking?
- Referral gamification such as Dropbox's referral system where you get more storage space for every friend you recruit and adding incentives for even more storage space.
- Creating a sense of urgency in the form of fear of missing out (FOMO) by limiting the amount of users, such as Gmail's launch in 2004.
- Acquiring competitors to create a monopoly of sorts, like Netflix did with acquiring several TV shows.
- Using SEO optimalizations to make sure your website is found by search engines such as Google is generally good practice.
What is NOT Growth Hacking?
- Door to door sales, as this is not scalable.
