SEO workshops
2 workshops / guest lectures I attended about improving your website to be found by search engines. Focused on SEO basics and keyword analysis.
Keyword research
I attended Koen Suijlen's guest lecture about keyword research which was very interesting. I documented my findings in the document below.
Keyword research workshopThis workshop informed me of usefull tools I can use to research keywords, aswell as what I should be looking out for when doing this research. It was very helpful to help me get a grasp of the most important steps to take when starting a new keyword analysis.
SEO basics
Another workshop I attended was Tim van Leeuwerden's online SEO workshop, which helped me understand a lot about SEO - looking at why and how SEO is used in online marketing.
Why SEO?
High conversion rate because customers are in a later stage of their customer journey by the time they search for a specific term.
Websites will often use blog posts for recurring traffic to keep your site indexed for longer.
Interesting statistics
- 89% of every transaction starts with a search engine.
- 50% of all search terms consist of more than 4 words.
- The top 5 results in a search engine get 75% of all clicks.
Keywords
There are 3 elements of keywords: relevance, volume and competition. These make up the overall quality of your keyword.
Relevance
How specific is the keyword? The more specific, the more relevant. Search engines get the most relevant results when using atleast 4 keywords.
When you only use 1 keyword, you will get a lot of traffic, but it is not relevant traffic as these people are not looking for your site specifically.
Volume
How many people are searching for this keyword? How many results are there for your keyword? The more results, the more competition.
Competition
To figure out how much competition there is, there are online tools to see how competitive a keyword is. These are however not perfect and it can be tough to get quality insights into the competition.
